Description

This is a rich area of nebulosity in the constellation Cepheus.  This image is unique in that all four types of nebula are visible here.  Dark Nebula in the form of the cloud like features, reflection nebula where bright blue and white starlight is reflecting off the dark nebula, emission nebula in the form of the red filaments passing through the image which are remnants left over from an old supernova event and finally a planetary nebula in the lower right which is caused by a star nearing the end of it's life.

This was a challenging image to process.  I used the Dream Astrograph in New Mexico that is part of the Skygems network and as usual most of my work was done in PixInsight.  I captured mostly LRGB frames but also collected some Ha which was later blended into the red channel and the luminance layer.  There were some serious optical reflections to work around, but overall I am really happy with the quality of data that this telescope delivers.

Thanks for stopping by.
