Description

These nebulas are located in the constellation Cepheus about 2,300 light-years from Earth.
The Flying Bat, shown in the background, is mostly ionized hydrogen gas while the Squid, in the foreground, is a region full of ionized oxygen clouds. Being very dim, the Squid Nebula was only recently discovered in 2011 by French astrophotographer Nicolas Outters.
