NGC 6992 Eastern Veil Nebula

NGC 6992 is the eastern portion of the Cygnus Loop, which is a supernova remnant roughly 2,400 light years away in the constellation Cygnus. The originating star, which was 20 times more massive than the sun, exploded 10,000 to 20,000 years ago leaving behind the Veil Nebula.

This was the first light with the new ASI2600MM Pro camera. I have paired this camera up with the 0.77 dedicated esprit 120 reducer for a faster and wider FOV. With the 50% increase in quantum efficiency over the 1600mm and the 68% increase in speed with the .77x reducer I am getting roughly 2.5x more photons per unit time than my original setup with the 1600mm and flattener only. So I only captured 5 hours of each narrowband channel, Ha and OIII, plus RGB stars to complete the image. Only 12 hours of integration, much less than my normal integration times, but equivalent to approximately 30 hours from my old setup. Im really hoping I can shorten my overall integration time, as clear skies are elusive, and produce more images than normal.

This is a wider field than usual and a larger pixel scale so the finer details are harder to see than if it were at the original 840mm focal length. Overall though I am very pleased with this setup and it won't change moving forward.

Typically I run an SCNR to remove any green cast from the image. When I tried this it took away any of the teal-turquoise color from the OIII. I wanted the OIII channel to look as it really should and not simply just blue so I skipped this step in this oxygen rich image.
