Description

The last several  nights have presented enough break in the clouds for me capture this stunning reflection amd  dark nebula with wider field of the Rokinon 135. These low lying southern targets present more of a challenge for me with the Kansas City light dome in the SE and the light dome of a local grain elevator to the SW.

I was so excited that I had 3 different rigs up and going: Edge 925, ASKAR 400, and the Rokinon 135 on my star adventure pro star tracker.  With the first scout images showing dust trails heading back toward the plane of the galaxy, I adjusted target from just the horse head to the larger molecular complex. In doing so, I found the nebula to take on a giant blue squid swimming through space.

Located on the border between the Constellations Scorpius and Optics. The bright blue region where the eye is located is designated IC 4592. It is a bright reflection nebula with gas reflecting the high luminosity stars like a mirror. The same type of reflection nebula is present mid in the center portion of the image with the two prominent stars forming IC 4601. The body and tentacles of the squid are formed from thick area of dust the appear to be in the same molecular complex as the tails from the RHO Ophiuchus complex.
