Description

This small planetary nebula, also known as PK 233+16.1, is located 12000 light years away in the constellation of Canis Minor at a declination of -25 degrees.  It is a magnitude 15.8 PN which spans 35 arc-seconds in our apparent view.  This corresponds to the typical PN diameter of 2 light years.

The gases are unusual here, with OIII dominant on the rim and HII slightly more dominant in the inner region.  The rim is brighter on the left side than on the right, probably due to the influence of the interstellar medium (ISM).  The progenitor star at the center is blue and bright.  I used the RGB image to color calibrate the narrowband image of the nebula.
