Description

Witch Head Nebula (IC 2118/NGC 1909)

is a faint reflection nebula located 1000 light years from us in the constellation Eridanus bordering with Orion.

The name comes from the profile look of an aged witch watching the nearby Blue Super giant star Rigel (beta Orionis).

The Nebula is illuminated mainly by the star Rigel and other young stars nearby is considered

as a supernova remnant. In 1909 Witch Head Nebulas was discovered by the German astronomer Max Wolf.
