Description

The largest and brightest of stars typically end their short lives in violent explosions known as supernovae. For a brief time, a single supernova may outshine its entire galaxy, but after this initial burst it will slowly fade, scarring interstellar space with an expanding bubble of matter known as a supernova remnant. When this fast moving material collides with the interstellar medium it produces spectacular filaments that glow at high temperature.
