Description

This rarely imaged object is a galaxy collection located 300 million light years away in the constellation of Andromeda at a declination of +30 degrees. Each of the large galaxies in this image span about 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 90,000 light years. The galaxies are designated NGC 67 through 74.

The galaxies don't appear to be much disturbed for appearing to be so close to each other, and indeed redshift data shows that none of these are as close to each other as they look. The two spiral galaxies (NGC 70 and NGC 72) are the closest large galaxies to each other, at 7 million light years.

The color shading of these objects is subtle but interesting, as the disks move from orange in the center to blue in their outer regions.
