Description

Are light pollution filters overrated?

Last night I just wanted to run some tests on my rig, and I ended up collecting about two and a half hours from the backyard. I used my Lifepixel-modified DSLR camera, but no filter.

Two years ago I imaged this very same object, with a non-modified camera (same image sensor, though) and an IDAS D1 light pollution filter (https://www.astrobin.com/387600).

To my eyes, the more recent image with no filter looks better. I’m unsure if the difference can be explained just by the additional integration time and the astro-modification.

Added another 1.5 hours
