Description

Taken during the Lyrids Meteor Shower, this is a wide angle of the Serpent Bearer, with the Alpha binary star Rasalhague and Beta Star Cebalrai of the Ophiuchus constellation shining through in the top/middle of the frame. This angle stretches to a brighter star forming region of the Milky Way, SH2-54 of the Serpens region. M14 is also in the top right, so it's a beautiful region with many deep sky objects in one frame that may look like stars at first glance but have so much more going on.

The moon was at about 60% this year, taken close to the shower peak time in a Bortle 4/5 region just north of the Milwaukee Metropolitan area: Harrington Beach State Park. I witnessed about 4-5 large streaks while I was out.

While shooting, about two bright streaks made their way through two subframes, so once I get a decent methodology to bring together as a composition, I'll be posting as a revision. I'm thinking I may have to manually layer on in Photoshop as Pixel Math in Pi seems incredibly more complicated than it needs to be. One streak was definitely a red-hued Lyrid - the other may or may not be a satellite flare, although it only appeared in one frame, so I'll have to take a closer look.

Description: Lightness layer addition of two meteors that grazed this area of the sky during peak of the Lyrids Meteor Shower, 2021. The red color of the one to the SE is indicative of a Lyrid. The background may need some relaxation in stretching to bring these out, revision 3, but marking this revision as final for now.
