Description

M88 is one the very fine spiral galaxies in the Messier catalog. I dismissed this object in the past, but I have to admit, that it is a very nice galaxy at a distance of 50 to 60MLy. In fact M88 is a Seyfert type II with a diameter of 105.000 Ly. The field is full of very small galaxies in the background, aprtly belonging to the Virgo cluster, but the IC3476 is of a different nature. It is an irregular dwarf galaxy only 7MLy away from our galaxy, yet it belongs to the Virgo cluster.

This was imaged over several nights from the light poluted city, so color remains a challenge.
