Description

What a balcony over this wonderful bay!, alike the actual Jura Mountains are a wonderful (and beautiful) balcony to lakes (Le Man, Neuchatel...) and the Alps ... these Jura Montes are nicely perched over the Sinus Iridum bay and Mare Imbrium. Aptly named they are then!.

Photographing this part of the Moon is not easy task (at least for me ), the difference in albedo between the colourful mare and the higher lands is significant. Besides, the verticality and high walls of the Jura make them really shine when conditions are good for the rest of the area features... so high contrast and dynamic range is the main challenge.

I opted for a coloured (softly, at least in comparison to other of my imaged of the Moon) as this area is a wonder in this sense. I have tried to be realistic in both the Mare and Highlands tonalities and intensities (more difficult).

The image is a mural  mosaic (yes you can enlarge it) of 10 images with general overlapping and severe cropping afterwards (as some edges of the resulting image were not homogeneous).  Each of images are the result of around 35000 frames at 140 fps at 4750 of focal length.

I hope you like this  Moon I had "pending" from the last February... yes I know, "Slow Processor" is my second name.... take care and keep enjoying the skies! Guillermo
