Description

After my rapid setup capture of Jupiter on the 17th October, I put the kids to bed and then came back for an attempt on Mars.

Given its position in the sky this year, Mars rises very close to the windows of my apartment block (and quickly disappears behind the overhang of my balcony). On this occasion, it was clear that the proximity to the windows was just not going to work: given the 24/7 hot, humid weather here, most people sleep with air conditioning on and I was therefore fighting some severe local seeing effects. You can see the impacts of this in Rev B.

I do, however, have a dolly which I can use to take my imaging rig downstairs ... I'm just too lazy most of the time. ;) The skies looked like they were going to stay clear, so I decided to make the effort to take everything downstairs to the rear courtyard of the estate. A reasonable result for that effort, plus it's always nice to actually spend some time (properly) under the sky.

Rev C shows the imaging rig in action, with Mars in frame as well.

Thanks for looking!
