Description

This object is a dim reflection nebula located in the constellation of Perseus at a declination of +54 degrees.

This object came to my attention when it was written up in the October 2019 Sky & Telescope magazine (p 59). I can't believe that this nebula was presented as an eyepiece object. I don't see how this could be seen visually when I struggled so much just to obtain some type of image of it. The stars are blown out above because I had to stretch the image so much to see the nebula.

The brightest area of this object looks like a combination of a blue reflection nebula with a faint cometary nebula, but as far as I could tell this smaller region of LBN 640 has no specific designation, which surprised me. A faint HII signal runs throughout the nebula, adding a nice subtle red hue.
