While narrowband images of the Veil Nebula are often presented in HOO or HSO palette, I decided to post process it as a starless narrowband SHO image.  The stars from the H-a narrowband channel were re-inserted towards the end of processing.  All pre and post processing was done in PixInsight.

All 3 narrowband channels had strong signal-to-noise ratios, however the SNRs were much higher in both the OIII and SII channels than in the Ha channel.  I toned down the greens of the SHO color palette somewhat but purposely not as much as I typically would do.  This allowed the faint pure H-alpha tendrils and clouds in the L-R quadrant (in green) to be more distinct from the stronger and more-interacting H-a and SII signals (more red-ish) in the main supernova remnant.

The field of view includes NGC 6960, a portion of a larger expanding debris cloud from a star that exploded 5-10 thousand years ago.  The entire supernova remnant is known as the Veil Nebula.  The western half of the nebula, shown here, includes areas less formally known as the Witch’s Broom (along the bottom) and Pickering’s triangle (right side, above center).  The remnant is about 2100 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus.  The Witch's Broom stretches about 35 light-years across.
