Description

I imaged these nebulae from my back porch in Illinois using a Takahashi FSQ-130ED and a 645 reducer on 6/15/20. Eleven images were captured at ISO 800 for 180 seconds. The images were stacked with DSS and the combined image was processed in Photoshop. No flats, darks or bias frames were used. I did use a Skytech LPRO-MAX filter. Guiding was done with a 60mm scope and a ZWO camera with PHD2 and APT software. Main imaging camera was a Canon Ra. This is the first time I have had a chance to image these nebulae since 1994 when I used a Nikon film camera, a 225mm Takahashi SCT and no guiding. Of course I could only get the Lagoon in the field of view with that scope and I always wanted a scope that would capture both nebulae. I had to wait quite a while but now I have a scope that will do it.

Description: I am fairly new to post processing in that I retired in 2017 and didn't have the time to study on this until then. Yes, I started imaging in 1992 but it was very sporadic. Anyway, I have a lot to learn but can see where I overdo stuff such as saturation, shadows and highlights etc. Anyway...I started looking at my earlier files where I started stretching the image and came up with this one which is more subdued.

Title: Lagoon & Trifid Nebulae

Description: I have migrated to PixInsight but still use Photoshop for some of my processing. I took the eleven 180 second exposures and stacked them in PI with WBPP and then used DBE and SPCC and Russell Croman's wonderful tools. I then took the starless image and the star image into Photoshop and ended up with this final result.
