Description

The Heart and Soul nebulae are located about 6,000 light-years from Earth. This is a vast star-forming complex that makes up part of the Perseus spiral arm of our Milky Way galaxy. The Heart and Soul nebulae stretch out nearly 580 light-years across, covering a small portion of the diameter of the Milky Way, which is roughly 100,000 light-years across.

This is a six-panel mosaic of the Heart and Soul nebulae taken during November and December 2020 from my yard in suburban Atlanta. The frame is about 8 degrees wide (the apparent diameter of about 16 full moons). This shot is comprised of over 60 hours of exposure through HA, O3, and S2 filters.
