Description

NGC 7331 is a spiral galaxy in Pegasus, about 40 million light years distant. Interestingly, the central bulge rotates in the opposite directions of its spiral arms. The surrounding galaxies are all much further away, about 300 million light years, and also quite distant to each other. The "Deer Lick Group", therefore, is only a visual grouping.

I quite enjoy the look of this galaxy: It has a lot of structure and quite a few young star clusters that are easily visible. The surrounding, smaller galaxies are a pleasing composition.

This was my first try with a clear filter on the mirror-only RC8. I also took some L, but there was no discernible difference in FWHM. I had (very) slightly more signal with the C filter, so I kept using it. Not sure if it will earn a permanent place in my filterwheel.
