Description

During the fall I would image M33 after the primary target for the night set behind the neighbor's tree. As a result the acquisition for this is scattered over eight nights.

Revision K:

drizzle

dynamic crop

dbe

channel combination

deconvolution

pcc

MLT noise reduction

ht

scnr

lhe at two different scales

lots of curves tweaks to try to get the balance right

This is the contrastiest version but also retains the diffuseness around the edges.

Revision J:

As Rev I but added:

TGV Denoise

AdvSharpening

Revision H and I:

drizzle integration

dynamic crop

dynamic background extraction

MLT noise reduction

deconvolution (rev e & f)

photometric color calibration

a very mild masked stretch

histogram transformation for medium contrast (didn't adjust black point)

scnr

local histogram equalization

curves transformation (contrast and mild saturation)

the with larger scale and smaller amount, 2 iterations

Revision G was process this way:

drizzle integration

dynamic crop

dynamic background extraction

MLT noise reduction

deconvolution (rev e & f)

photometric color calibration

histogram transformation

SCNR

Curves (saturation & contrast)

AdvSharpening script

Revisions prior to G were processed this way:

Processing Overview:

drizzle integration

dynamic crop

dynamic background extraction

MLT noise reduction

deconvolution (rev e & f)

photometric color calibration

masked stretch

local histogram equalization

curves transformation

scnr

adv sharpening script

final crop (rev f)

I was also hoping my hydrogen alpha filter would arrive in time to include some h-alpha in this image but I don't know when it is going to show up. If it does show up before m33 leaves the sky I'll try to add some time in on this.

Description: This is a reprocess from scratch. I found a problem with the calibration of some of the files so started over. This time I was able to add in deconvolution and worked on contrast a bit more. This is also rotated 180 degrees from the original version though not for any particular reason.

F

Description: Cropped a bit tighter to avoid some noise that was in the lower left corner. I think the noise was from Nina failing to rotate the camera properly on one run so the subs were not lined up properly leaving one corner (fortunately away from the galaxy) with lower SNR. I couldn't reduce it without making it look artificial so opted to crop it a bit tighter.

G

Description: This is a reprocessing from the stretching state. Used HT instead of MS. Then did some TGV Denoise on background, SCNR to remove green, more SCNR on background to remove blue and red due to some chroma noise, curves transformation for contrast and saturation and finally the advsharpening script.

H

Description: Yet another reprocessing this time using a suggestion from MadRatter on cloudy nights.

Again, the same until stretching, then:
a very mild masked stretch
histogram transformation
scnr
lhe
curves
2 more iterations of the with larger kernel radius and smaller amount

I

Description: forgot to apply my final crop in rev h

Uploaded: ...

J

Description: Apparently, I wasn't quite done. :)

Added in a touch of TGV Denoise and did the adv sharpening script that I forgot to apply.

Uploaded: ...

K

Description: I'm out of control today. :)

Went back to almost the beginning and made the initial MLT noise reduction stronger but then didn't do any noise reduction. Did deconvolution before noise reduction. Then only HT and lots of curve tweaking to get the balance just right.

I think I'm done. Or at least exhausted.

L

Description: One last revision. I mean it this time. :)

Just boosted saturation a touch.
