Description

To the day 257 years after Charles Messier added the great globular cluster in Hercules, which was discovered 50 years earlier by Edmond Halley, as #13 to his list, I got to image it from our backyard in the city center of Braunschweig, Germany. It is about 150ly in diameter and 25kly away from earth and the hot blue and colder yellow stars contribute to its characteristic appearance. If you have a closer look at the core region, you may notice a slightly darker area in the bottom part which got nicknames the three-bladed propeller.
