Description

NGC 1530 is a barred spiral galaxy in Camelopardalis and lies at a distance of 116 million light years.  It is one of the most studied galaxies by the professionals.  It is a double-barred galaxy - double-barred galaxies account for almost one-third of all barred galaxies. The bar of NGC 1530 is one of the largest and strongest ever observed.  It has an inner nuclear ring at the center of the galaxy which is the site of strong star formations.  The bar has driven a high fraction of the total gas of the galaxy into the center.  (credit:  IRIDA Observatory)
