Description

This image shows some of the colorful stars of the southern constellation of Vela, and also a part of the Vela supernova remnant, a expanding debris cloud that was formed by the explosion of a massive star that happened 11000 years ago. At the moment of the explosion, the core of the star collapsed, forming a pulsar, while the outermost layers were ejected into the interstellar medium, producing the filaments that can be seen in this image.

This image was made adding OIII data to the previous RGB + Ha data and the change was dramatic. For comparison, this is a link to my old image, made only from RGB + Ha.
