Description

This object is a barred spiral galaxy located 65 million light years away in the constellation of Virgo at a declination of -9 degrees. This 9.5 magnitude galaxy has a surface brightness of 12.2. It spans 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to an actual diameter of 70,000 light years. Our view of this galaxy is about 40 degrees from face-on.

I love the brightness and color differences between the outer and inner galaxy disks. The outer disk appears flocculent, while the inner disk has a spiral structure emanating from the central bar.

Many tiny distant galaxies are visible in the background.
