Description

Absolutely sick to death of the endless cloudy nights recently so decided to have a crack at doing a HDR moon composite. Yes, Yes I know that this goes against the grain for a lot of people and to be perfectly honest it is not the type of heavily composited processing type of images I want to engage with but desperately wanted to shoot something under a rare clear spell the other week whilst the clouds cleared for more than 10 mins and deepsky was off my menu due to the moon being 73% full.

Stacked 30 individual full moon frames for the shadowed side of the moon. Stacked 80 individual frames for the 73% illuminated side of the moon. Stacked 25 frames at very low ISO and 20 second exposure length for the faint background stars and stacked approx 20 hugely overexposed frames for the moon glow.

Although like I've said, this really goes against my grain, but if nothing else I can say I had an absolute blast processing this image and it was great fun going crazy for a little while. Completely spawned out of an inherent need to image "something" and do a little processing on anything I could get my hands on hahaha.

For those with a keen eye, you'll notice that the background moon and the illuminated moon are nowhere near lined up due to the moons libration. Background full moon subs where taken in April 2019 with the illuminated moon subs taken last month.

Lucky imaging is next on my agenda for shooting the moon I think but that said we are well into deep sky territory now and I still havent shot a single frame on anything since last month!! Tick Tock Tick Tock!!

Just for laughs guys and please don't think less of me LOL. Now please join me in the Backyard Warriors prayer for some bloody clear skies !!

All the best,

Stuart
