Galaxy season is probably not the best season of the year when you only have a 70-300mm zoom lens with a stock DSLR. Nonetheless, I wanted to give a shot and capture this deep sky object. It's actually the first galaxy I've ever shot and it's also the first time I've used my laptop on the field with dedicated astrophotography software.

I polar aligned using the polar scope of the IOptron Skyguider Pro then made adjustments with SharpCap Pro to get a fair polar alignment. Unfortunately, getting a better polar alignment was quite difficult with the IOptron base. I then used N.I.N.A and Stellarium to focus, frame and capture the subs.

Unfortunately again, I've had an issue with the calibration frame so they couldn't be used. I re-shot the dark and bias frames a week later but couldn't do the same with flats.

PixInsight was used for every step of the pre-processing and processing with a touch of Topaz Denoise AI afterwards.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
