Description

Sh2 -132 is an extended emission nebula visible in the constellation of Cepheus .

It is located on the southern edge of the constellation, a short distance from the border with the Lacerta (Lizard) constellation , along the plane of the Milky Way. The most suitable period for its observation in the evening sky falls between the months of July and December and is considerably facilitated for observers located in the regions of the Earth's northern hemisphere .

Sh2-132 is located at a distance of almost 3200 parsecs (almost 10400 light years ), thus placing itself within the Arm of Perseus, in the region of Cepheus OB1.

The stars responsible for ionizing its gases are very hot and massive; in particular, two Wolf-Rayet stars have been identified , known with the abbreviations HD 211564 and HD 211853 (the latter also having the abbreviation WR 153), as well as a spectral class star O8.5V and a dozen class stars B.

Around the class O star and one of Wolf-Rayet's stars there is a clearly visible bubble in the radio wave band. This object is identified with the initials Shell B , probably originated from the stellar wind of the two massive stars. A similar but smaller structure, Shell A , hosts a class K star near its center. It is believed that chain star formation processes took place in the past ; currently these processes seem to be suspended, since there is no trace of recent activity.  [Source: Wikipedia]

CAPTURE Information:

The image was captured with the iOptron CEM120 mount , the venerable Meade 12"LX200 SCT, and my Atik 383L+ mono CCD at F7.16 (2182mm FL).

Image subs were taken through Astronomik's narrowband filters Ha, SII and OIII.

IMAGE information -- 2020

Ha : 35 subs (5.83 hr) on Jul 31st, Aug 1st and 2nd.

OIII : 33 subs (5.50 hr) on Jul 31st, Aug 1st and 2nd.

SII : 35 subs (5.83 hr) on Jul 31st, Aug 1st and 2nd.

All exposures were at 10 minutes (600s) each, 1x1 bin and -10C.

Processing was done with PixInsight, following (for the most part) kayronjm's tutorial of Feb. 24th from several years back.

Ha, SII and OIII were combined after integration/crop/DBE for creating color, using PixelMath and the following formula:

Red = Ha

Grn = 0.15xHa + 0.85xSII

Blu = OIII

Luminance was created using only subs from the Ha filter.

North is up (pretty sure), and this is a very slight crop due to the various movement of different subs.

COMMENTS:

The complete nebula is somewhat larger than my setup’s field of view. Consequently the presented image is the central 50% of the total.
