Description

The North America Nebula (NGC 7000) and neighbouring Pelican Nebula (IC5070 and IC5067) in Cygnus, near Deneb. A bright emission nebula, partially obscured by dust along the line-of-sight. These combine to create the distinctive shapes, which resemble the Southeastern coastline of the USA, and Gulf of Mexico; and Pelican - hence the names.

LRGB Image created using PixInsight (for calibration, registration, integration) and Adobe Lightroom (for cosmetic adjustments). 300s exposures (35xL, 29xR, 22xG, 24xB).

8.4 hours of data (cumulative) captured in New Mexico at Deep Sky West, using a QSI WSG-5 CCD Camera and a 135mm f/2 Rokinon lens. I could never do this from my back garden in the suburban UK, mostly because of light pollution.
