Description

Everyone in astronomy knows this cluster. It is probably the greatest example of a globular in the northern sky, but not everyone notices IC 4617, the tiny galaxy about 14' away. This galaxy is so small because it is very distant, a whopping 540,000,000 light-years away and receding from us at an astonishing 10,933 kilometers per second - or 3.6% of the speed of light!
