Description

This is a single frame of what will hopefully be a 4 frame mosaic of this region. The incredible number of stars in this image obscure the underlying structures, but I find both revisions fascinating for the capacity to display the vastness and complexity of our universe. Any comments/critiques would be well appreciated.

Lum: 24x10min

RGB: 12x5min each

7hrs total

Data were acquired at my parent's cottage in a (grey Bortle 2) in cottage country, Ontario.

The final images are more of an experiment in presenting the low-level dusty parts of the universe. I wrote an algorithm in Python to eliminate the smaller stars, trying to minimize distortion as much as possible. I am still tweaking the algorithm, but may upload it to GitHub once I am happier with it. Any comments on the star reduction would be much appreciated as well.

I hacked the algorithm to protect both the fireworks galaxy and the globular cluster. It was hard to find a satisfactory way to present them without creating funny artifacts.

Description: This image is star eliminated with my own python star elimination algorithm and then the stars are slightly reduced with Pixinsight to reduce how bright they appear with 10min subs. I hacked the algorithm to protect both the fireworks galaxy and the globular cluster. It was hard to find a satisfactory way to present them without creating funny artifacts.
