Description

Jellyfish Nebula (IC443, Sharpless 248)

This image is a Hubble Palette (SHO) with RGB stars.

The Jellyfish Nebula located in the constellation Gemini is a supernova remnant located in the constellation Gemini about 5,000 light-years from Earth having an angular diameter of 50 arcmin with an apparent magnitude of 12. The Jellyfish Nebula is a remnant of a supernova that occurred in between 3,000 and 30,000 years ago in our Milky Way, and it is one of the best-studied cases of supernova remnants interacting with surrounding molecular clouds. The Propus (Eta Geminorum, η Gem) is the brightest star in this image.
