Description

Messier 6 (M6 - NGC 6405) and Messier 7 (M7 - NGC 6475). The group of stars on the left-bottom of the picture is M7 open cluster, while the one on the upper-right corner is a rather compact M6 cluster. M6 is also known as the Butterfly Cluster due to its appearance like a butterfly.

Astronomical details: 1) M6: NGC 6405. The Butterfly Cluster. RA/Dec 17h40m19.93s/-32°15'10.8" (J2000). Moderately concentrated irregular cluster. Apparent diameter 25'. Mag 6. Distance 491 pc (1601 ly). 2) M7: NGC 6475. RA/Dec 17h53m51.13s/-34°47'34.8" (J2000). Very very large and very bright cluster. Apparent diameter 60'. Mag 5. Distance 300 pc (~978 ly).
