Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a tiny interacting pair of galaxies located 0.5 billion light years away in the constellation of Hercules at a declination of +51 degrees.

This 2 galaxies are LEDA 2387685 on the left and LEDA 3087279 on the right.  Each galaxy spans 20 arc-seconds in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 55,000 light years for each one.

My favorite aspect of this image is the distinctly different yellow and blue colors of the 2 galaxies.  A faint bridge is seen between them.  I have categorized this object in my Merger Stage B (Short Bridge) collection.
