Description

So, the Moon has also a Wall dividing West and East....rupes Altai. In this case this "wall" is a portion of the rim of the impact basin of Nectaris. It is a wall arched between the craters Piccolomini and Catharina, with a length of about 440 km.

With a maximum height difference between the mountain crests and the surrounding terrain of about 3 km!!! (near the crater Pons and Fermat ). When chosen with the good timing, it presents a good contrast of high albedo or a dark shadow (depending on phase), as the inclination of the slopes of Rupes Altai is much steeper than, for example, with Rupes Recta or Rupes Cauchy. Rupes Recta and Rupes Cauchy also have a much smaller difference in height compared with the surround ing terrain.

So with this setting, there I was in a nice evening at home (where else with the dammed pandemia...) with nice seeing... so I focused on composing a nice panorama that would enhance the length of the Rupes. I shot from Theophilus (great seeing while capturing it , I might do a separate one of Theophilus) to Piccolomini... I am happy with the resulting panorama, there were a slight worse area on the upper right (around Tacitus crater) but I did not want to crop as I think the framing of the image would suffer.

On the technical side, it is 5% selection of about 40000 frames at 140 fps. Results processed with lightroom, autostakkert, registax and pixinsight. Details are explained in the side version (workflow chart).

Take care you all! Guillermo
