Description

St-Dr-1 was discovered in the constellation Taurus. in November 2019, by amateur astronomers Xavier Strottner and Marcel Drechsler, and is believed to be a planetary nebula.

French amateur astronomer Xavier Strottner (catalog St with 67 planetary nebulae) and the German astro-photographer Marcel Drechsler (catalog Dr with 37 planetary nebulae ), decided to combine their skills with the support of American astronomer, Dana Patchick, and discovered this nebula by peeling the digital images available on the Aladin Sky Atlas. Their catalog (StDr) already has 16 discoveries waiting to be confirmed by obtaining a spectrum of planetary nebulae.

I was fortunate to be informed of this new discovery by my friend and colleague, Mike Inglis, professor of astronomy at Suffolk County Community College.

For a much better image, and the only other one I can find through an internet search, look for Peter Goodhew, who was the first to capture a color image of this newly discovered nebula, and a main source of inspiration for me to try.
