Description

First Light with SmartEQ Pro mount. 39x90" unguided, using DSLR and rough polar alignment with PS align on my iPhone. Had a heck of a time figuring out how to enter the Time Date and Site coordinate information, got it figured out. Did a one-star alignment to Betelgeuse (which was easy to spot with its dim orange color), it slewed to NGC 2023 directly in the center of the frame. Slightly under an hour of integration time, will be adding more once the weather clears up.

The original image is my last attempt on the Horsehead and Flame with my old Celestron CG3 EQ2 mount.

Description: Updated: first light with SmartEQ Pro mount, 39x90 seconds...in hindsight I was pushing it a bit because the stars are trailed, but it was still exciting to see the light gathered.

Description: Reprocess, started from scratch. DSS with 2x drizzle, 20 darks 20 bias (taken after imaging session), 20 flats. Kappa Sigma light/Median setting for bias/flat/darks. Pixinsight for ABE, Multiscale Linear Transform, Masked stretch, Morphological Transformation to reduce star size, Histogram transformation, Unsharp Mask, Curve stretched. Used a Range Selection mask for each step, generating a new mask for every step. ACDNR, additional noise cleanup. Lightroom for removing CA in the purple range and additional NR. Photoshop CS3 for additional level adjustment and layer blending. Downscaled image size from the 2x drizzle prior to export.
