HSO blend on the region surrounding the Bubble Nebula in Cassiopeia, including the Lobster Claw and Dreyer's Object (aka Brain Nebula). I took 30 min exposures with the ASI6200MM in 3nm narrowband; this entire region is suffused with a huge amount of hydrogen gas, not often visible in other images that I found. I really wanted to show that, and also give a sense of the gas being heated and glowing from the central stars, so I chose to use HSO rather than SHO or Hubble. I used a custom PixelMath equation to reduce Ha where the Oiii signal was strong, so as to avoid getting that purple color. This allowed the Lobster Claw to come out in beautiful shades of blue.

The synthetic luminance didn't come out as sharp as I would have liked, so I want to redo it at some point. Also, poor Cassiopeia A in the waay bottom right (weird blue-green squiggle) got kind of munged, hopefully now that I know it's there :-D I can protect it better when I redo it. This is a 50% reduction from original size.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
