Description

NGC 4151 is an intermediate spiral galaxy 52 million light years away in Canes Venatici. It is a Seyfert galaxy (galaxies known to have active nuclei). At its centre is a supermassive black hole. Because of the outer shell, the galaxy is sometimes referred to as the 'Eye of Sauron'.

There are a host of other galaxies visible in this view, the most prominent being NGC 4145 and NGC 4156.

NGC 4151 was photographed between 6 and 16 April 2021 from my home observatory in the UK.
