Description

100 light years long and 1500 light years distant, the vast expanse of this beautiful nebula refuses to be bounded by the four thirds sensor of my ASI294MM.

This is my third attempt at this object; my first one was when I was relatively new to narrow band imaging. The second, about a year ago, was a more serious attempt, but despite the long integration time was not something I was satisfied with. This one is much closer to what I wanted to achieve, a 36 hour attempt with a focal reducer, a more sensitive camera, and one better able to handle the brightness of ξ Persei and capture the ever so faint and wispy OIII signal.

NGC 1499, like the Veil Nebula, is best shot in narrow band, I think. The true extent of the nebula is more apparent, as is the intricate structure and detail embedded in the nebulosity. I only wish I had a larger sensor to capture the full extent of this wonderful DSO.
