Description

This is NGC7293 - The Helix Nebula in 'true' 3D
I worked super hard to make this over the past few months!
Over 40Gb of data went into this 15s video
This is a HOO image with RGB stars with a total of around 15h exposure.
After I made the final image I plate solved to identify catalogued stars. I then searched the GAIA database for the ID'd stars, extracted their parallax and converted that to distance. I then used their distance as a depth offset in After Effects to render the image in 3D. This way the nebula and surrounding stars have accurate relative distances to each other!
I think this gives some perspective as to the size of the nebula itself, spanning the distance
