Description

Centaurus A is one of the brightest galaxies visible from this side of the world. Its most prominent feature, the dust lane crossing it and making it resemble a burger shape, makes it "the hamburger galaxy" in my book (even though that's the name given to another galaxy, but Centaurus A has a far closer resemblance if you ask me).

This was a troubled capture session. It took a long while to salvage. A dust mote that moved before flat acquisition had to be fixed manually, and there's still some leftovers. There were also guiding issues that lost me quite a lot of capture time, a light leak adding a ton of noise and really hard to remove gradients.

This will need some more work, but for now this is the best I was able to get.

Still, this target is special for me. It was the first galaxy I observed visually, and I'm still impressed by it.

What I like about this image is that it's showing quite a few background galaxies already. If I get an opportunity to get more integration, they should reveal themselves more clearly above the noise. Fingers crossed, the wheather isn't cooperating lately.
