Description

Aristarchus crater (foreground), named after Aristarchus of Samos, is one of the highest albedo features on the lunar surface and lies in front of Herodotus crater and Vallis Schröteri. Aristarchus at 42 km wide sits high up on the Aristarchus Plateau and is one of the youngest lunar craters at ~450 million years old. At 3.7km depth Aristarchus is about twice as deep as the Grand Canyon of Arizona.
