Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a small galaxy group located almost 0.5 billion light years away in the constellation of Draco at a declination of +65 degrees.

The 4 galaxies in the mouseover are all part of the Hickson 80 group.  They range in brightest from magnitude 15 (Hickson 80a) to 17 (Hickson 80d).   I see signs of disturbance in 3 out of the 4 galaxies.

The largest of these is the edge-on galaxy Hickson 80a, also known as LEDA 56588. This galaxy spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a Milky Way like diameter of 120,000 light years.

Many other galaxies are visible in the same frame, none of which have distance data.   Based on the sizes and brightnesses, my guess is that all of these are about the same distance away.

My favorite of all of the galaxies seen here is the pseudo-ring galaxy, PGC2676769, at the left edge of the image.   The barred galaxy at bottom center is also interesting.
