Description

This rarely imaged object is a tiny pair of interacting galaxies located 220 million light years away in the constellation of Andromeda at a declination of +44 degrees.

The central spiral galaxy is PGC 3345. This almost edge-on galaxy spans 2.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 150,000 light years. Although it is hard to see the galaxy structure from our perspective, I like the dust clouds which surround the bright core and the one heavy arm which extends to the right.

The companion galaxy just to the left is a lenticular galaxy, PGC 3442. This galaxy looks to be about the same size as PGC 3345.

The galaxy in the upper right corner is MCG+07-03-011. It doesn't look to me that this galaxy is interacting with the other two.

This is the first color image of this object on Astrobin. You will see that I took this image several months ago - I made numerous processing attempts of this challenging object.
