Description

This object is a pair of HII regions located in the constellation of Camelopardalis at a declination of +53 degrees.

SH2-207 is the large HII region at image center. This region lies 15000 light years away. It spans 4.5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a width of 20 light years. This object is also classified as PK 151+02 1, which is the designation for a planetary nebulae, but it is now known that this object is a HII region. The open star cluster in the upper half of this object is Mayer 2.

Sh2-208 is the small HII region at right. This region contains the open star cluster GSC 03719-00517. This region lies 13000 light years away. It spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a width of 4 light years.

Faint dust and emission fills the background and obscures the stars to some extent. A more distinct band of emission is seen on the right edge of the image above Sh2-208.
