Description

NGC 1579 (also known as the Northern Trifid) is a diffuse nebula located in the constellation of Perseus. It is referred to as the Northern Trifid because of its similar appearance to the Trifid Nebula, which is located in the southern celestial hemisphere of the sky.

It is a H II region, a region of star formation. The star cluster contains the emission-line star LkHα 101, which provides much of the ionizing radiation in the nebula.

NGC 1579 lies within a giant molecular cloud known as the California Molecular Cloud. [Source: Wikipedia]

CAPTURE Information:

The image was captured with the iOptron CEM120 mount , the venerable Meade 12"LX200 SCT, and my Atik 383L+ mono CCD at F7.16 (2182mm FL). Image subs were taken through Astronomik's filter Lum, along with R, G and B. All subs were done at 1x1 bin, -10C, at 10 minutes each.

IMAGE information -- 2020

Lum: 63 subs (10.50 hr) on Feb 12th, 13th, 20th, 24th and 26th.

Red: 28 subs (4.67 hr) on Feb 13th,14th and 27th.

Green: 20 subs (3.33 hr) on Feb 14th and 16th.

Blue: 28 subs (4.67 hr) on Feb 16th, 26th and 27th.

North is to the right (I think), and this is a slight crop due to the various movement of different subs.

COMMENTS:

This is my first run at NGC1579. The nebula is located in the central portion of the sky. It tracks ever so slightly north of due east to due west. As usual I was working in between clouds, rain and the moon.

I was disappointed with the initial run. There was a lot of details missing when compared to more professional results (always a dangerous practice). However, I kept plugging and adding photons. The final product isn't up to the better standards, but it's not all that bad.
