Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a near edge-on lenticular galaxy located 220 million light years away in the southern constellation of Pisces Austrinus at a declination of -26 degrees.  It spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 120,000 light years.

We have a perfect view perspective of this lovely dark dust lane pattern.  Most dust lanes basically ride the centerline, but this one is shaped like a shallow V.  Plus, the main dust lane seems to be superimposed over a second, more traditional centerline dark lane.  This galaxy has been disturbed by something.  Perhaps it is the recent of a past merger.

The five faint white objects in a row along the plane of the disk, extending in a line up and to the right of the galaxy starting just below the core, look a bit suspicious to me.  Perhaps they are clusters associated with this galaxy.  Or, as is normally the case, perhaps they are simply distant galaxies in a chance alignment.
