Description

This edge-on spiral galaxy is located 60 million light years away in the constellation of Hydra at a declination of -30 degrees.  It is a blue magnitude 12.2 galaxy which spans 6 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 110,000 light years.

The near side of this galaxy is to the right.  I love how the galaxy bulge peaks just above the dust lane.  The dust lane is wide and show some detail along its width.  The far side of the galaxy on the left is obscured by the glow of the galaxy halo.
