Description

A milestone! First image shot from my backyard! And looks pretty great for being inside the light pollution dome of San Francisco! 😁😁😁 Bortle 7 here. Plus, the longest integration I've ever done -- 7 hours!!

M33, the Triangulum Galaxy! Shot over the last month from my backyard near Berkeley, CA. It's located 2.73 million lightyears away in the constellation Triangulum, above Aries and below Andromeda. It only has a tenth of the number of stars that the Milky Way does, and is 60,000 lightyears across. It is home to some gorgeous, enormous emission nebulae, as well as at least 54 globular clusters, and possibly more.

There are some halos around the brighter stars, which is most likely the result of not having an IR-cut filter in place (I thought my light pollution filter blocked IR, but it actually doesn't!). And thank goodness for PixInsight's DynamicBackgroundExtraction! Truly magical!
