Description

SH2-54 is an extended bright nebula in the constellation Serpens at a distance of 5,500 light-years. Also visible, in this image, is the open cluster NGC 6604. SH2-54 and the, much more imaged, Eagle Nebula and Omega Nebula are part of the same HII region. There are very many young high-mass stars in this region which constitutes the Serpens OB1 and Serpens OB2 OB associations. This is a very active star forming region, with many protostars and infrared sources, where newly forming stars are still imbedded in their stellar cocoons of gas and dust.

This was imaged, this month, by DSW-Chile's TOA-150 in El Sauce, Chile, in Ha, L, R, G, B.

Anyway, hope ya like it!

Tom
