Description

Imaged Saturn on the night of July 26, 2020, just a week past it's July 20th opposition. I'm still learning my way around the ASI290MM mono planetary camera, and wanted to compare results from IR and Luminance (Baader Moon & Skyglow in this instance). The IR filter requires longer exposures (~2x) and hence I end up with about half as many frames from any capture. The results were pretty comparable in terms of noise so the lower frame count with the IR wasn't a big deal in this instance. It's interesting to see the North polar region on Saturn really stands out in IR compared to the MSG filter.

Imaged with a C8 Evo, ZWO ADC, Baader IR 685nm pass and Moon&Skyglow filters, and ZWO ASI290MM. Imaging train was configured to give me ~F/17. Image capture using Firecapture with gain set at 350 and an exposure of 25 ms (IR filter) / 12.5 ms (MSG filter). Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (best 25% of ~10000 frames (IR filter), ~20000 frames (MSG filter) captured over 240 seconds). Wavelet sharpening in Registax6. De-rotated in Winjupos.
